Planned my first trip to Costa Rica back when I was 13! Highly recommend visiting this beautiful country. Take in the natural biodiversity from cloud forests of Monteverde to the beaches of Manuel Antonio National Park. Grab those binoculars and visit the many National Parks of Costa Rica each host to their own set of diverse wildlife and botanical wonders. Hold on while you zipline through the cloud forest of Monteverde and rappel down waterfalls in La Fortuna. After enjoy a soak in one of the many hot springs or serene beaches. If you're a thrill seeker or looking for a peaceful stay this country has so much to offer.
December to April
I went in January, which was very decent sunny weather in the 70s. It was relaxing with few tourists but too quiet sometimes.
Plan your bus tickets with Rome to Rio
I recommend either taking a guided bus tour or renting your own car
4 days is doable but I'd stay at least 1 week
1-2 nights San Jose
3 nights in smaller cities like Monteverde, La Fortuna, Tortuguero
2-3 travel days
My recommendation
Pick one of the smaller cities and book tours close by. Getting from one city to the next takes days since your traveling through windy jungle roads, through inclement weather and traffic.
Enjoy the rich biodiversity exploring the canals, beaches, and jungles. Take boat rides and hikes with a wildlife expert and get photos from tour photographers.
